Mineta San Jose International Airport (IATA: SJC, ICAO: KSMJ) is a joint civil-military airport located in Santa Cruz, California. The airport is owned and operated by the Santa Clara County Air Pollution Control District. It is the only commercial airport in Santa Cruz County and the seventh busiest in California. It also serves as a focus city for Allegiant Air, WestJet Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.

The airport was opened on November 15, 1946. It was originally named Mineta San Jose Municipal Airport after George Mineta, who was then the Mayor of San Jose. In 1974, the name was changed to reflect its joint military and civilian status. The current name honors former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta.

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located in the city of San Francisco, California. The airport covers an area of 2,500 acres (1,000 ha) and has two runways: 14R/32L is 4,001 by 150 feet (1,219 by 46 m) and 14L/32R is 3,431 by 83 feet (1,067 by 25 m). It is the busiest international airport in the United States and the eighteenth busiest in the world. In 2009 it handled 62 million passengers.

In 2006 SFO became a focus of a high-profile security investigation dubbed Operation Green Quest that focused on the smuggling of contraband into and out of the United States. In 2007 SFO was designated as one of five U.S. airports to receive advanced Global Entry screening for low-risk passengers.[5]
